Searches for Barbie on Asda.com have surged more than 260% week-over-week ahead of Barbie movie release; Google searches have also risen for 'pink birthday cake' and 'barbie cake ideas' as interest rises in Barbie-themed celebrations

• Ahead of the release of Barbie, one of the biggest movies of 2023, searches on Asda.com have sky-rocketed by over 260% compared to last week  
• Similarly, Google Searches for “pink birthday cake” and “barbie cake ideas” have risen in the last week, as interest rises in Barbie-themed celebrations

Ahead of the much-anticipated release of the Barbie movie this coming Friday, it’s safe to say that the vibrant Barbie-core aesthetic and trend is not going anywhere, as proven by Asda and Google search results.

Searches for the term ‘Barbie’ were up almost 264% on Asda.com and in the top three searched terms as of yesterday and today– floating in the top five including a recent TOP SPOT since the beginning of the week. Google searches for “pink birthday cake” have increased by +80% whilst searches for “barbie cake ideas” haves gone up by +40% over the past seven days, as the movie launch date approaches.

Those searching the term on Asda.com will find a host of products to help customers celebrate and get involved. Asda is offering a Mattel licensed Barbie Celebration cake, an important centrepiece for any Barbie-party. Little ones and grown-ups alike – whether a 10th birthday or pre-Barbie cinema trip girls dinner - will love the exclusive (until 21st July) sponge cake.
