CalRecycle will hold a public workshop (see public notice) to consult with the public, the regulated community, third-party contractors, and other interested parties to solicit feedback on some of the requirements outlined in SB 54 (Allen, Chapter 75, Statutes of 2022). The workshops will cover the following non-regulatory topics. Morning Session (10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.): Topic I: Second Draft of Covered Material Categories List Afternoon Session (1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.): Topic II: Needs Assessment The workshop will have a one-hour break for lunch at noon. CalRecycle has updated the draft covered material category list that was presented in the June workshop.
An overview of two upcoming proposed studies for the required needs assessment: the SB 54 Producers and Source Reduction Baseline Study, and the Recyclable Material End Market Study.
CalRecycle has provided discussion documents (available on our website) for the public to review workshop concepts in advance of the workshop. The purpose of these documents is to provide interested parties with an overall outline of what is going to be discussed, and the specific feedback that CalRecycle plans on soliciting from workshop participants and in written public comments.

Simultaneous Spanish interpretation will be available in-person at the workshop and remotely via Zoom or webcast. For in-person interpretation services, headsets will be available and can be provided by CalRecycle staff prior to or during the workshop. If you need interpretation services in a language other than Spanish, please notify the Department at packaging@CalRecycle.ca.gov by September 20, 2023, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Future Engagement Opportunities:
CalRecycle is planning to hold an Informational Session pertaining to the Producer Responsibility Organization Application on October 12, 2023, at 10:00 AM PDT. Participants will be able to join in-person at the Byron Sher Auditorium at CalEPA Headquarters or virtually through Zoom and Webcast. More details will be released closer to the event. Dates are subject to change.
