Stora Enso, together with Boliden, Borgstena, Lindholmen Science Park, Polestar, Sekab, SKF, SSAB, Volvo Cars and several universities, participates in a collaboration with an ambition to develop ground-breaking technologies and solutions to eliminate future greenhouse gas emissions from different value chains.

The collaboration, called Mission 0, is a pilot project in which several large players have the common ambition to build a longer term consortium, to be at the absolute forefront of the materials and manufacturing industry by eliminating future greenhouse gas emissions.

“Stora Enso’s long-term approach to sustainability focuses on climate, biodiversity, and circularity. Mission 0 is a great opportunity for us to contribute to greenhouse gas emission reduction in multiple value chains. We need to solve big societal problems like climate change together. Topics of this scale and complexity cannot be solved in isolation, innovation happens in collaboration,” says Juha Kiviranta, Vice President Innovation at Stora Enso.

By bringing together researchers as well as material and product engineers under one roof, the project aims to come up with climate-neutral materials for the society of the future. Mission 0 House will be established in Gothenburg, Sweden.

“Mission 0 House gives us a unique opportunity to focus entirely on developing solutions to eliminate future greenhouse gas emissions. By creating a platform where scientists and engineers can collaborate, we are convinced that we can drive the innovations required for a future with modern materials without greenhouse gas emissions,” says Hans Pehrson from Polestar, who leads the day-to-day work of Mission 0 House.

Mission 0 House will initially focus on creating the conditions for a long-term strategic initiative where product companies, material suppliers and academia work together. Concrete development projects will be implemented to build shareable knowledge and abilities between different sectors.
