A paper on soil reinforcement geosynthetics has been named Best Paper in 2021 from the IGS journal Geotextiles and Geomembranes. The winner, ‘Geosynthetic reinforcement stiffness for analytical and numerical modelling of reinforced soil structures’, co-authored by Richard Bathurst and Fahimeh Naftchali, was recognized for the significant new insights it provided to the discipline. The winning paper can be found in Geotextiles and Geomembranes issue 49(4): 921-940 Honorable mention was given to ‘Hydration/dehydration behaviour of geosynthetic clay liners in the Antarctic environment’ by Genaro Carnero-Guzman, Abdelmalek Bouazza, Will Gates, Kerry Rowe, and Rebecca McWatters. This paper can be found in issue 49(1): 196-209 *Editor-in-chief Chungsik Yoo congratulated all the authors for their “very significant contribution to the geosynthetics discipline”. Judged by the Associate Editors and Editorial Board, papers were considered for their contribution to geosynthetics in terms of providing substantial new insights and/or their high potential impact on the discipline.
