Although China currently supplies over 80% of the world's rare earth, investments in technologies to replace rare earths by Japan and western countries is loosening China's monopolous grip, noted CarbonCredit. US and Europe have been signing deals without China and Japan has reduced its rare earth dependence on China from over 90% to 58% within a decade.
