SÂO PAULO , January 31, 2023 (press release) –

Led by Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson, the OFF!® #ViraOJogo challenge invites Brazilians to “flip the bucket” on mosquitoes by removing standing water

Amid the heat and humidity brought on by the Brazilian summer, SC Johnson and OFF!, one of SC Johnson’s leading insect repellent brands, are launching a national social media challenge to encourage consumers to protect themselves from mosquitoes and raise awareness of ways to prevent and combat mosquito-borne diseases. Led by Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson, in partnership with leading influencers, including Tata Werneck, the #ViraOJogo challenge advocates for prevention as the best protection from mosquitoes and invites consumers to “flip the bucket” to remove standing water, which is a potential breeding ground for disease-transmitting mosquitoes.

“Our decades of experience in this field have shown that standing water poses an enormous risk, as it becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes that can carry many harmful diseases such as Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. “The #ViraOJogo Challenge is demonstrating that, if we all work together towards a shared goal and take one simple action like ‘flipping the bucket,’ we can make a significant impact in the community by helping prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.”

The #ViraOJogo challenge will begin on January 30 with Fisk Johnson, Tata Werneck and other influencers encouraging consumers to participate in the challenge by posting the creative ways they “flip the bucket” to help prevent mosquito proliferation on their social media channels. By removing potential mosquito breeding grounds in standing water, participants in the #ViraOJogo challenge can help reduce mosquito populations in their communities and help prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

“The most important game to flip this summer is against mosquitoes that may carry the potential risk of insect-borne diseases, so, join me and empty buckets, plant pots, tires or anything you find that holds standing water”, says actress Tata Werneck.

Influencers who will participate in the #ViraOJogo challenge include:
Tata Werneck, Actress and presenter
Douglas Silva, Actor
Fernanda Gentil, Journalist and presenter
Giovanna Bichels, Digital creator
Gui Souza, Comedian

For more than 60 years, SC Johnson has been dedicated to mosquito research. At the SC Johnson Center for Insect Science and Family Health™, one of the world’s largest private, urban entomology research centers, Applied Entomology Research is a significant area of focus and underscores the company’s commitment to global innovation and advancement of family health.

SC Johnson researchers work to understand and manage insects, with expertise in insect biology, physiology, ecology, behavior and toxicology, infestation management and the prevention of insect-borne diseases such as Malaria, Dengue and Zika, and they continue to help families worldwide learn about how to use pest control products such as Off! and how to protect themselves against some of the more common insect-borne diseases.

As part of its efforts to prevent mosquito-borne diseases in Brazil, SC Johnson recently donated more than 26,000 units of OFF! ® repellents to Instituto Dara and Casa Ronald to support at-risk families in Rio de Janeiro, in recognition of the National Day to Combat Dengue in November 2022. In addition to donating repellents, SC Johnson also held lectures for communities at Instituto Dara and Casa Ronald on the best ways to protect against mosquito bites and diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, such as Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya and Malaria.

This initiative is part of the Mosquito Awareness Program, which has served more than 25,000 people since 2018, with the donation of more than 250,000 units of Exposis® and OFF!®. The program aims to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases by providing families with education on how to protect themselves from insect bites.
