Sun Chemical to showcase range of SUNFOODS natural colorants for the food and beverage industry at several upcoming US trade shows in April and May; SUNFOODS colorants are derived from vegetables, fruit and algae

April 10, 2024 (press release) –

PARSIPPANY, N.J., U.S.A. – April 10, 2024 – Sun Chemical will showcase its wide range of SUNFOODS™ natural colorants for the food and beverage industry at several upcoming U.S. trade shows, including:

  • Supply Side East in Secaucus, N.J. (April16–17, 2024)
  • North California IFT Suppliers Night in Pleasanton, Calif. (April 25, 2024)
  • Pet Food Forum in Kansas City, Mo. (April 29–May 1, 2024)
  • Sweets and Snack Expo in Indianapolis, Ind. (May 14–16, 2024)

Derived from vegetables, fruit, and algae, SUNFOODS natural colorants are designed to meet demands for cleaner, healthier consumable ingredients while delivering bright, vivid color.

Visitors of Sun Chemical’s tabletops and booths at these shows will learn how its SUNFOODS product line can be a natural colorant alternative to Red Dye No. 3 for food applications. With the proposal in California, New York and Illinois to ban Red 3 in the near future, many companies are looking for more naturally derived color alternatives. SUNFOODS offers botanical-derived colorants that maintain vibrant red hues and stable performance while helping brands comply with updated regulations.

Sun Chemical will also feature its nutrient-rich, sustainably cultivated algae Spirulina, which is mainly used as a functional ingredient in dietary supplement and food and beverage applications. Together with the Earthrise farm and DIC Corporation, Sun Chemical has more than 50 years of experience cultivating and distributing California-grown spirulina.

The tabletops will also feature LINABLUE® vibrant blue spirulina extract that comes in both liquid and powder forms and is currently the only globally approved blue natural colorant. Free from microcystin, sustainably manufactured LINABLUE offers high consistency in color variation and over 99% solubility in the industry.

Also on display will be SUNFOODS Iron Oxides which have excellent color stability and purity and feature key color palettes for the pet and feed industry.

“Our Food and Nutrition team looks forward to showcasing our naturally derived colorant offerings for the food industry through the first half of 2024,” said Sophia Jin, Business Manager Americas and EMEA, Food and Nutrition, Sun Chemical. “We are excited to connect with existing customers, forge new relationships and discover more opportunities to create value for our stakeholders through our cleaner, healthier product lines.”
