PARSIPPANY, N.J., U.S.A. – March 6, 2024 – Sun Chemical has launched SACRANEX™, a versatile cosmetic active ingredient derived from the blue-green algae Suizenji Nori. SACRANEX offers superior skincare benefits ranging from moisturization and pollution defense to reducing the appearance of redness, fine lines and wrinkles. The first Suizenji Nori extract cultivated indoors on a large scale, SACRANEX comes with two grades—SACRANEX B and SACRANEX F—allowing formulators to customize products. “Sun Chemical has always been the expert in bringing vibrant colors to life,” said Ed Webb, Global Director of Cosmetics, Sun Chemical. “Now we’re extending our expertise beyond pigments to introduce an active ingredient derived from Suizenji Nori algae. Just as we’ve mastered the art of color in beauty, we’re bringing skincare solutions that enhance natural formulations from the inside out.” SACRANEX is a result of a joint venture announced in August 2022 between DIC Corporation and Green Science Materials, Inc., a biotech venture that endeavors to achieve the sustainable future of the Suizenji Nori blue-green algae. The joint venture was created to develop the indoor mass cultivation technology needed to deliver the stable production of SACRANEX for global scale. Farming Suizenji Nori indoors also prevents the depletion of natural resources in a rare species of algae. In its ongoing effort to offer cosmetic makers an opportunity to ethically enhance the sustainability of skincare products and meet the increasing consumer demand for natural, sustainable cosmetic solutions, Sun Chemical’s SACRANEX is the latest product launch to encompass responsibly sourced plant-derived ingredients and colorants that improve the naturality and function of beauty formulas.
