In October 2020, we announced our medium-to-long term ESG goals, “Kyo-sei Life Vision 2030,” and have set “addressing climate change” as one of the key themes, aiming to switch all electricity used in our business operations to 100% renewable sources by 2030.

Comment by Unicharm Corporation Executive Officer,
PT Uni-Charm Indonesia Tbk President Director, Mr. Takumi Terakawa

In UCI, our purpose is to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have adopted “Ethical Living for SDGs” as our corporate slogan and are actively introducing solar power generation in our plants as part of this initiative. By fully operating the solar power generation installed by UCI by the end of the fiscal year 2023, we plan to switch approximately 15,000 MWh of electricity to renewable sources annually. In addition, we will contribute to Unicharm Group’s goal of switching all the electricity used in our business operations to 100% renewable energy by 2030, along with utilizing initiatives such as I-REC*2.

Furthermore, we are actively engaged in energy-saving activities and will contribute to the Indonesian government’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality (net-zero emissions by 2060 or sooner) by 2060.

*2: I-REC is a certification that verifies the renewable energy value of electricity generated by renewable sources. It is certified and managed by the non-profit organization, I-REC Standard and is adopted by over 50 countries, primarily in the Asia region.

Contributing to the 17 SDGs through “Switching to Renewable Electricity”

Unicharm believes that the activity of “Switching to Renewable Electricity” will contribute to the following goals of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015.

7. Affordable and Clean Energy     12. Responsible Consumption and Protection 13. Climate Action

We will continue to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs by solving environmental and social issues through our business activities, including the provision of products and services.
