Unicharm included in 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index for third consecutive year, recognized for disclosure and achievement or adoption of best-in-class statistics and policies

Unicharm Corporation (CEO and President, Mr. Takahisa Takahara) announced that it joins the 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), a modified market capitalization-weighted index developed to gauge the performance of public companies dedicated to reporting gender-related data for three consecutive years.


Unicharm submitted a social survey created by Bloomberg, in collaboration with subject matter experts globally. Those included on this year’s index scored at a global threshold established by Bloomberg to reflect disclosure and the achievement or adoption of best-in-class statistics and policies. The 2023 GEI reaches globally to represent 45 countries and regions, of which 15 companies are Japanese companies. 

We have been striving to develop a personnel system that respects the diversity of each employee and is easy to work with, and have introduced a "flextime system" and a "remote work system" since before COVID-19. In addition, from April 2022, we have reviewed and expanded related systems in light of the revision of the Child Care and Family Care Leave Law. As an example, for male employees, we introduced "moony childcare participation leave" system, which allows employees to take 5 days of leave within 8 weeks of birth, and the "moony childcare leave" system, which allows employees to take leave while their partner is pregnant and afterbirth.

Currently, the percentage of female managers in Japan is approximately 14.4% (as of September 2022), but we aim to raise this percentage to 30% by 2030, as stated in the Unicharm Group's medium- to long-term ESG goals "Kyo-sei Life Vision 2030 ~For a Diverse, Inclusive, and Sustainable World~" announced in October 2020.

We will continue to develop a comfortable working environment and systems for each and every employee and actively disclose information on these initiatives.
