Unicharm holds second information exchange on visualizing GHG emissions at its Tokyo headquarters, pledging commitment to industry-wide carbon reduction efforts and compliance with international regulations

August 30, 2023 (press release) –

Unicharm Corporation (CEO & President, Mr. Takahisa Takahara) held the second information exchange session on visualizing GHG emission on August 25, 2023 at their Headquarters in Minato-ku, Tokyo.

Unicharm believes that "De-carbonization is a challenging theme that cannot be achieved by our company alone”, and that it requires efforts from the entire industry, not just the daily necessities industry. In doing so, we believe that it is important to formulate and implement clear and user-friendly rules for consumers to understand and choose the products and services provided by companies, while complying with the international calculation regulations.

Based on the above perspectives, the first meeting of this session was held on May 26, 2023, for the purpose of exchanging information and opinions on the visualization of GHG emissions. This second meeting provided an opportunity to exchange a wider range of information and opinions than ever before, as the number of participating companies has increased.

Plan for Future Initiatives

During this session, we exchanged information and opinions regarding the carbon footprint (CFP) in daily commodities and other products. Government officials provided updates on global trends and future policy directions, as well as the necessity of CFP calculation and industry collaboration.

We also exchanged opinions with the participating companies on how to proceed the future information exchange meeting, as well as topics and methods of discussion, in order to solidify the foundation for industry collaboration.

Moving forward, we plan to invite not only the companies that participated in this meeting but also participants from various industries to share information and engage in discussions towards the establishment of highly transparent GHG emissions rules in compliance with the international calculation regulations.

The next session is scheduled to be held in November.
