UK-based GAMA Healthcare commercially launched Rediroom, a mobile medical cart that can expand into an air-filtered isolation room within minutes, International Filtration News reported on May 20. For the past two years, Redrioom was field tested by the UK’s National Health Service to accommodate hospitals overcrowded with patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the company, 400 Rediroom orders have already been placed. The Rediroom mobile cart is equipped with HEPA and carbon filters that can trap 99.995% of air particles 0.3 microns or larger, meaning they’re more efficient than N95 filters, which remove roughly 95% of similar-sized particulates from the air. When expanded, the Rediroom features a spunbonded polypropylene canopy roof, double-laminated spunbonded walls composed of polypropylene and polyethylene. The walls also include PVC windows that are sealed with double-sided tape, which can be peeled off for easy replacement. According to International Filtration News, 93% of UK hospitals currently have less than half-capacities for beds in single rooms. In the US, hospital-acquired infections cost US$28.4 billion annually, according to CDC estimates.
