SC Johnson, parent company of SC Johnson Professional, announced the company has diverted more than 88 million pounds of coastal plastic—the equivalent of 2 billion single-use bottles—from entering the ocean since 2018. Five years ago, SC Johnson teamed with international nonprofit Plastic Bank to launch an initiative targeting ocean plastic. The agreement created recycling infrastructure of more than 500 collection centers across Indonesia, the Philippines, and Brazil. The partnership also supported more than 19,000 collection community members who collected plastic in exchange for digital savings and rewards. Starting in 2019, SC Johnson has used the recycled plastic to manufacture 100% Social Plastic® bottles for its Windex and Mr. Muscle product lines. “We’re proud to partner with Plastic Bank and support recycling infrastructure to stop plastic before it reaches the ocean or landfill,” said Fisk Johnson, SC Johnson chairman and CEO. “Reintroducing the captured plastic into products and packaging is key to addressing the ocean plastics crisis.
