As reported by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, its Facility and Services (F&S) Building Services department, in partnership with ISSA, recently launched a new Building Services Specialist Cleaning Program in five high-usage campus facilities. Nearly 40 building service workers at the university underwent professional development and received training certification from ISSA through its Cleaning Management Institute (CMI). The pilot buildings in the program are the Campus Instructional Facility, Talbot Laboratory, Grainger Engineering Library Information Center, Lincoln Hall, and the Materials Science and Engineering Building. According to the university, consultants from CMI used industry standards to perform an initial analysis last November of the university’s cleanliness. Using that analysis, ISSA will organize specific cleaning tasks using a more-systematic approach than the zone cleaning setup currently in place. The new system should help eliminate the potential for cross-contamination through color-coding and other streamlined processes. Questions about the new program and related service adjustments in the pilot facilities can be forwarded to Pete Varney, University of Illinois director of transportation and building services, by emailing him at pvarney@illinois.edu or calling 217-333-7583.
