Genesis Biosciences has joined the COMBAT AMR consortium. Led by Professor Jean-Yves Maillard of Cardiff University, the consortium seeks to understand and control the emergence and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in complex drain biofilms. Genesis Biosciences will collaborate with universities and educational institutions throughout Europe on this research project, Cleaning Hygiene Today reports. The COMBAT ARM consortium will study drain biofilms from healthcare, agricultural, and residential settings to understand the presence of antimicrobial genes and multidrug resistant organisms within those biofilms. The consortium will use a new multi-species biofilm model based on research by Dr. Kate Ledwoch, who was recently named laboratory manager for Genesis Biosciences. “Antimicrobial resistance is a threat to both human and animal health, impacting the ability to treat infections and ensure food security. As biofilms act as a reservoir for harmful, resistant pathogens, it is important to improve our understanding of antimicrobial genes and the impact of disinfection on complex biofilms,” said Dr. Emma Saunders, Genesis Biosciences general manager. “We are looking forward to working with Cardiff University and the other members of the consortium to help tackle this global challenge.” About Genesis Biosciences
