American Cleaning Institute releases simple, detailed steps to clean and maintain dishwashers for prolonged life and enhanced performance

Do you ever notice a funky smell coming from your dishwasher, or maybe your dishes aren’t coming out as clean as they used to? It might be time to give your dishwasher a good cleaning! Here are some simple steps to help you clean your dishwasher and keep it in tip-top shape.

• Check the bottom of the dishwasher and around the edges of the door for any visible debris to wipe it away. Then, lightly wipe down the seals and the sprayer arm with a cloth that has some water and a very small amount of dish soap.
• Remove any food debris or gunk that may be stuck in the dishwasher’s filter or drain. If you don’t know where the filter is, check the appliance manual. If the filter is removable, wash it in warm, soapy water, then rinse it before putting it back.
• There are also dishwasher cleaners you can put in and turn on a hot water cycle to clean out your dishwasher.
• Don’t forget to wipe down the exterior of the dishwasher. If it is stainless steel exterior, there are cleaners designed to keep this surface looking its best.
