Brazil and Washington, DC – August 2, 2023 | On Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 10:00 am BRT (9:00 am ET), Verra and NBS Brazil Alliance will host a webinar to strengthen the capacities of various actors in the carbon markets. The briefing “The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program: Carbon Credits Integrity and Co-benefits” will explain how to certify a project with the VCS Program and issue Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) that meet the VCS quality assurance principles. These principles ensure all VCUs represent GHG emission reductions or removals that are real, measurable, additional, permanent, independently verified, conservatively estimated, uniquely numbered, and transparently listed. The briefing will also address how projects promote tangible benefits for communities and biodiversity. It will cover how the Verra certification scheme has been working in Brazil, the inherent challenges and opportunities, and how Verra has been adapting to meet the growing demand for carbon credits and the number of carbon projects in Brazil. Finally, the speakers will discuss how REDD+ projects can be developed on indigenous lands, conservation units, and public areas, and which special precautions and implications must be considered in the process.
