The Seed Project will be expanded to 69 locations where Suzano operates in the State of São Paulo, with the objective of generating work and income for families in situations of social vulnerability

With the aim of promoting socioeconomic development in the regions where it operates, Suzano, in partnership with Sebrae-SP, intends to qualify more than 2,500 entrepreneurs from 69 municipalities in the State of São Paulo. The initiative, called Projeto Semente, aims to generate income and new opportunities for people in situations of social vulnerability, through training, mentoring and follow-up in the job market.

The official launch of the continuity and expansion of the Seed Project took place this Wednesday, August 9, at a ceremony held at the headquarters of Sebrae-SP, in the city of São Paulo. The event was attended by representatives of Sebrae-SP and Suzano, as well as members of municipalities covered in the regions of the regional offices of Sebrae-SP in Alto Tietê, Guaratinguetá, Sorocaba, Botucatu, Piracicaba and Southwest Paulista.

The action, which will involve investments of R$ 7.7 million, intends to strengthen local entrepreneurship, in addition to collaborating to generate jobs and income, removing more than 2,500 people from the poverty line by the end of 2024. Last year , the project relied on contributions from Sebrae-SP and Suzano with professional qualification and employability actions for people in economically vulnerable situations in the regions of Alto Tietê and Vale do Paraíba. In eight months of implementation, the actions reached 20 municipalities and lifted 292 people out of poverty.

“The Seed Project contributes to Suzano's Commitments to Renovar a Vida, a set of 15 long-term public goals of the company, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Among these goals is to help lift more than 200,000 people out of poverty in the areas where the company operates by 2030. In this sense, we believe in partnerships like this one, with Sebrae-SP, to achieve this goal. By fostering local entrepreneurship, we contribute to creating business opportunities, new jobs and, consequently, promoting socioeconomic development in the region. With the launch of this new stage of Projeto Semente, we renewed the partnership that worked in 2022 and which has already started to make a difference in the lives of many people”, emphasizes Giordano Bruno Automare, executive manager of Social Development at Suzano.

For the Managing Director of Sebrae-SP, Nelson Hervey Costa, the objective of the project is to promote productive inclusion through entrepreneurship, generating business, jobs and income for the most vulnerable population in the State. “Working with publics in vulnerable situations is, currently, a strategic focus of Sebrae-SP in favor of a more egalitarian society in terms of resources and opportunities, as there is no economic growth without it being inclusive. And being inclusive gives us the opportunity to positively transform the lives of many people, which is our mission ”, he highlights.
