ROME , January 5, 2024 (press release) –

The HUESKER team received three awards at the 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics (ICG) in Rome. The company received two awards in the Case Study category and one in the Product Development category. The awards were presented by the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), a global community of 4,000 members from all over the world dedicated to the scientific and technical development of geotextiles, geomembranes, related products and associated technologies.

“Case Study Award Pan-America 2020” was possible thanks to a project solution involving the construction of the first artificial beach ‘El Salitre’ in Chile using geotextile tubes.

“Case Study Award Africa 2023” honored a project in Nigeria. It focused on the construction of a second bridge over the Niger River in Onitsha, Nigeria, which is part of an essential national infrastructure project with immense benefits for the population and economy of Nigeria. It includes the construction of the 1.6 km bridge and the construction of more than 10 km of road embankments in the swamplands of Nigeria. The challenging nature of the low bearing capacity subsoil was stabilized with the help of 17,000 geosynthetically-coated sand columns and thus made suitable for construction.

In a statement, HUESKER thanked its partners: Julius Berger International GmbHGE Systems & Solutions B.V. sowie Kempfert + Raithel Geotechnik GmbH. “Our work and ambition in product development has been recognized by the IGS for the second time,” the statement reads. “This year we received the award for advancing the development of groundwater protection through innovative geosynthetic contaminant filters in the form of our Tektoseal® Aktiv product familiy. We would also like to congratulate our colleague Laura Carbone.” The IGS Council recognized Carbone’s tireless work to promote young member participation at all levels of the IGS, as co-chair of the first Young Member Committee (YMC) and later as chair of the YMC and the European Region YMC. here.
