March 1, 2024 (press release) –

At Emballator we are strengthening our commitment to sustainability through a new partnership with the transport company DFDS, where we electrify parts of the transportation route between Emballator Metal Group in Ulricehamn and Emballator UK in Bradford. This strategic investment supports our sustainability goals related to our transport, where we aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.

DFDS share similar sustainability visions and have set goals to reduce their emissions by 50% by 2030 and to be completely climate-neutral by 2050. Through investments in electric trucks with extended load capacity and range (approximately 27-28 miles), they position themselves as a competitive player in the sustainable transportation market.

“We are convinced that this partnership will underscore our commitment to sustainable transportation and contribute to a more sustainable future for both us and our customers. By electrifying parts of the transportation route between Ulricehamn and Bradford, we take a significant step towards achieving our sustainability goals for 2030.” – Torbjörn Persson, Procurement Manager at Emballator Packaging Innovations

With over sixty electric trucks in operation across Sweden and plans for continued expansion, DFDS is actively working to ensure a reliable charging infrastructure along the freight routes, similar to what Emballator utilizes. By investing in their own charging infrastructure and exploring collaborations with other stakeholders, they have taken a proactive approach to the future of sustainable transportation.

“With DFDS’ help, we can now electrify the route from Emballator Metal Group in Ulricehamn to the port in Gothenburg, where the cargo is delivered for ferry transport to the UK, reducing the carbon footprint for the route to close to zero.“ – Maria Edqvist Schultz, Head of Sustainability for the Emballator Group.

Upon arrival in the UK, the cargo will be further transported to the factory in Bradford using trucks powered by fuel from renewable sources, which in turn reduces the carbon dioxide emissions for the route from the ferry to Bradford by 85%, compared to if the same route had been driven on conventional diesel.

DFDS’ electric trucks generate significantly fewer or no greenhouse gases during operation compared to their conventional counterparts, and the implementation of these electric trucks plays an exciting and central role in our commitment to reducing emissions related to transportation.
