We have targets to achieve carbon neutrality across our operations by 2030 (Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions), and to be net zero across our value chain by 2050 (Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions). These ambitions are supported by a range of targets covering energy, waste, water and biodiversity. Our carbon neutral journey

Achieving carbon neutrality across our own sites is an important step to deliver on our environmental sustainability goals, and BAT now has 18 certified carbon neutral sites around the world‡. The certification process carried out independently at each site is based on detailed requirements on carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions quantification, reduction and offsetting. Achieving carbon neutral certification requires robust ongoing decarbonisation plans and a commitment to continued emissions reduction. This achievement is a result of site-level teams working with technology and adopting processes and practices to reduce energy use and carbon emissions.

As our Chief Executive Jack Bowles says in our 2021 ESG report,: "We all have a responsibility to protect our planet, while delivering a positive social impact. Business can and must embrace the values of a green economy and continue to accelerate progress towards a sustainable future. By working together, we can help develop solutions to bring about lasting change and create A Better Tomorrow for all."
