March 24, 2023 (press release) –

As part of DoorDash’s ongoing work to broaden food access, we’re excited to announce a series of new commitments designed to expand access to nutritious food and healthy choices. These commitments build on the initiatives and partnerships we launched last year tied to the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.

Today, in support of the White House’s goal of ending hunger, DoorDash is committing to, by 2025:

  • Growing the availability of produce on the DoorDash Marketplace by partnering with grocers across the U.S. to power online ordering and local delivery, and by increasing healthy stock keeping units (SKUs) in DashMarts.
  • Keeping healthy options top of mind for consumers by promoting and highlighting healthy products as part of the DoorDash consumer journey in the DoorDash Marketplace.
  • Offering access to SNAP/EBT grocery delivery in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico by working with grocery partners to enable online orders using EBT as a payment method, thereby reducing transportation and mobility barriers, increasing convenience and dignity for SNAP users, and supporting the distribution of produce and healthy foods on behalf of businesses.

“As part of our mission to empower local economies, we’re proud to broaden food access for the communities we serve,” said Max Rettig, Vice President, Public Policy & Social Impact, DoorDash. “Local delivery can help reduce transportation and other barriers by giving people access to nutritious food and healthy choices in a convenient and dignified way. DoorDash is proud to once again support the administration’s call to action as part of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health and we look forward to continuing to work together to explore innovative solutions to end hunger in America.”

DoorDash’s Partnership with Mayors Across the U.S.

Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to support the White House’s goal of ending hunger by 2030. Last September, we announced a series of partnerships with mayors across the U.S. to broaden food access in their communities during the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.

Since then, we’ve been working directly with almost 20 mayors in cities such as Oakland, Denver, Tampa, and Albany to collaborate on innovative ways in which these localities can leverage DoorDash Community Credits, technology, and infrastructure to broaden access for their constituents.

Project DASH’s Role in Broadening Food Access

Providing the communities we serve with access to food is an integral part of what we do every day at DoorDash.

Since 2018, Project DASH has helped broaden food access in local communities by enabling food banks, food pantries, and other social service organizations to connect food and other important resources to their clients using the same logistics technology used by DoorDash merchant partners. Since its inception, Project DASH has powered over 3.5 million deliveries of more than 60 million meals provided to people experiencing food insecurity across the U.S. and Canada.

However, hunger continues to be a challenge affecting millions of people. In 2021, more than 34 million people, including 9 million children, faced food insecurity, highlighting the urgent need to identify scalable solutions to support people experiencing food insecurity.

Local delivery can help broaden food access by ensuring that food travels to families in need – not the other way around. It can be an integrated part of a suite of solutions that address the different barriers people face.

By removing transportation and other barriers to nutritious food, we can ensure healthy choices are more readily available for people living across the United States, including in food deserts. We look forward to continuing to work with our partners across all levels of government to further expand the role of local delivery in combating food insecurity.
