October 17, 2023 (press release) –

A paper exploring experimental geomembrane leakage tests has been named paper of the year by IGS journal Geotextiles and Geomembranes.

The annual accolade given by the publication, whose editor-in-chief is IGS Past President Chungsik Yoo, recognizes papers offering significant new insights and/or those whose findings offer a high potential impact on the geosynthetics discipline. Papers are judged by associate editors and the editorial board and all technical articles, except those authored by the Editor, were eligible.

  • The winner of the Best Paper Award in Issue 50 was ‘A general solution for leakage through geomembrane defects overlain by saturated tailings and underlain by highly permeable subgrade’ by R. K. Rowe and J. Fan. It can be found in Geotextiles and Geomembranes 50(4): 694-707.
  • Honorable mention was given to ‘Two-dimensional soil arching evolution in geosynthetic-reinforced pile-supported embankments over voids’ by R. Rui, Y. Q. Ye, J. Han, Y. X. Zhai, Y. Wan, C. Chen, and L. Zhang. It can be found in Geotextiles and Geomembranes, 50(1): 82-98.
