Leipa Georg Leinfelder, a German manufacturer of paper and board, announced it will take downtime on paper machine 5, which makes white uncoated testliner. The shut is scheduled to last one week, but the company may take more downtime if necessary. Orders have weakened to some degree, and customers' inventories have been building up, Leipa officials said. About 10,000 tonnes of testliner will be removed from the market due to the temporary shutdown, slated for the third full week of June. If the market doesn't normalize in the coming weeks, the company may decide to take more downtime on both paper machines, PM 3 and PM 5, over the following months. Leipa said the downtime would not affect its supply to its customers. Leipa's two paper machines have a combined annual capacity of around 700,000 tonnes of white testliner.
