At the beginning of this year, construction work to expand the wastewater treatment plant at the Koehler Paper site in Kehl was completed after 1.5 years. The reason for the expansion was the new construction and commissioning of production line 8 in 2019 and the associated increased amount of wastewater. As a temporary solution, Koehler Paper had to discharge some of the wastewater into the municipal sewage treatment plant in Auenheim. So that all production wastewater can be cleaned in Kehl itself, new basins and sand filter systems were built. In addition, the existing pools were partially adjusted during ongoing operations so that there were no interruptions in the production process. After the construction work was completed, the sewage treatment plant in Auenheim was able to be relieved again as planned. The purified production water can be fully reintroduced into the natural water cycle. The renovation measures therefore make an important contribution to achieving the sustainability goals in the area of resource efficiency. To this end, Koehler is constantly optimizing the circular use of material flows and minimizing the impact on the environment.
