TELÊMACO BORBA, Brazil , March 31, 2022 (press release) –

Klabin will carry out the 2022 General Shutdown at the Monte Alegre Unit, in Telêmaco Borba (PR), among the April 5th and 16th. This important event aims to comply with the mandatory Regulatory Norms (NRs) of the sector, as well as ensure the proper functioning of the Unit's equipment, implement improvements that will increase the quality of its production process and the safety of employees.

It is at this moment that the necessary maintenance takes place to guarantee the reliability of the operation, in line with Brazilian legislation. The stop also generates opportunities for the implementation of technological improvements and updates. During this period, some equipment is paralyzed to carry out the necessary interventions, ensuring the reliability of operations. The company emphasizes that all safety and environmental standards are applied when carrying out maintenance and when returning from the factory.

To preserve the health of professionals and the community regarding the transmission of the coronavirus, the Company follows strict safety protocols, such as maintaining social distance, mandatory use of a mask, hand hygiene, use of an automatic system for measuring temperature in the factory concierge - with sensors that act quickly and reliably, avoiding the formation of queues and the possible involuntary approach between professionals - and rigorous monitoring of possible symptoms by employees. In order to avoid an eventual overload to the region's health system, the company also invested in a partnership with a private hospital in Telêmaco Borba, which will assist employees who need medical care.

In addition, all contractors will have to present proof of complete vaccination against Covid-19 and will carry out tests in the city of origin, before moving. The exam will be repeated before accessing the factory, where all contractors will be screened, including those residing in the region. To ensure even more security for the entire operation, Klabin has reorganized meal times, which will be held in five cafeterias, and adopted remote work for the administrative areas during the period.

The General Shutdown provides for an increase in new temporary jobs, a significant part of which is local labor from the surrounding cities, generating income for workers in Campos Gerais. This movement requires logistics and infrastructure that include transport, accommodation, meals and others, strongly encouraging the movement of the economy of cities. In addition, the generation of taxes for municipalities in these periods grows, due to the extra flows in hotels and the increase in demand for food in general.
