ORTIGUERIA, Brazil , February 8, 2022 (press release) –

Focusing on health protocols and prevention of Covid-19, the action will be carried out between February 7th and 18th

Klabin will hold the 2022 General Shutdown at the Puma Unit, in Ortigueira (PR), starting next Monday, the 7th. This important event complies with the mandatory Regulatory Norms (NR's) of the sector, ensures the proper functioning of the Unit's equipment, as well as implements improvements that increase the quality of the company's production process and employee safety.

To preserve the health of professionals and the community at this time of a pandemic, Klabin maintains strict safety protocols, such as social distancing, mandatory use of a mask, hand hygiene, temperature measurement at the entrance to the Unit and monitoring of possible symptoms.

All contractors will have to present proof of complete vaccination against COVID-19 and will carry out tests in the city of origin before moving. The exam will be repeated in a previous screening for access to the factory, including for contractors in the region. To ensure even greater safety throughout the operation, the Company has prepared a third restaurant structure at the Unit, which will accommodate PG outsourced professionals, while the company's employees will continue to adopt their usual spaces during this period, as will the Puma II Project team.

In order to avoid an eventual overload to the region's health system, the company also invested in a partnership with a private hospital in Telêmaco Borba, which will assist employees who need medical care.

Other successful actions in previous general shutdowns continue, among them: use of an automatic system for temperature measurement at the factory entrance - with sensors that act automatically, quickly and reliably, avoiding the formation of queues and the possible involuntary approach between professionals -, reorganized places and times for meals and adoption of remote work for administrative areas.

Downtime for maintenance are regulatory events for some industry sectors, in line with Brazilian legislation. It is at this moment that the necessary interventions take place to guarantee the reliability of the operation, bringing safety to the processes and to the people (employees and community). In addition, the Shutdown also creates an opportunity for technological improvements and updates to be implemented. It is worth mentioning that at Klabin, the stages of the work are defined with the best project management practices, with a focus on safety, planning, integration and quality in the production processes of the manufacturing units.

The General Stop provides for the increase of 5,000 new temporary jobs in the region, a significant part of which is local labor from the surrounding cities, generating income for workers in Campos Gerais. This movement requires logistics and infrastructure that include transport, accommodation, meals and others, strongly encouraging the movement of the economy of cities. In addition, the generation of taxes for municipalities in these periods grows, due to the extra flows in hotels and the increase in demand for food in general.
