The German containerboard market is showing initial signs of price softening. Some market leaders expect paper inventory at containboard mills to reach historic highs while some manufacturers and converters of recycled corrugated case material (RCCM) are already making price concessions. Most manufacturers seem to think prices are moving laterally, but a few producers are said to have already made price concessions. Corrugated board industry players also noted there's plentiful paper supply in Germany. Paper mills continued to produce in May and June –when Germany had several bank holidays – even though ordering had slowed. According to some market players, the amount of the price cuts appears to be a "cautious first step," and a second step could follow in July, but there's no way to know whether overall prices will drop in July. Early third quarter is often hought to be the possible starting point for any potential downward trend in RCCM prices.
