European consumers’ bleached or semi-bleached softwood kraft pulp stocks reached 215,409 tonnes in February, decreasing by 3,902 tonnes, or 1.8%, compared to January, according to data released recently by Utipulp. Year-over-year, these inventories were 15.0% lower, down by 38,103 tonnes. For bleached or semi-bleached softwood kraft pulp, there were 21 days of supply in February, which is equal to January's total. There were 25 days of supply in February 2021. European consumers’ bleached or semi-bleached hardwood kraft pulp stocks reached 377,840 tonnes in February, decreasing by 7,757 tonnes, or 2.0%, compared to January. Year-over-year, these inventories were 26.3% lower, decreasing by 134,749 tonnes. For bleached or semi-bleached hardwood kraft pulp, there were 18 days of supply in February, which is less than January's total of 19. There were 27 days of supply in February 2021. In February, the consumption of bleached or semi-bleached softwood kraft pulp in Europe, compared to that of January, decreased 6.3%, to 288,792 tonnes. Year-over-year it decreased 2.0%. In February, the consumption of bleached or semi-bleached hardwood kraft pulp in Europe, compared to that of January, decreased 4.4%, to 610,069 tonnes. Year-over-year it increased 3.4%. For bleached or semi-bleached softwood sulfite pulp, the inventories totaled 15,675 tonnes in February, increasing by 401 tonnes, or 2.6%, month-over-month but was 3.7% lower year-over-year. The consumption in February of 26,165 tonnes was 8.7% lower than a year earlier. For bleached or semi-bleached hardwood sulfite pulp, the inventories totaled 9,445 tonnes in February, decreasing by 275 tonnes, or 2.8%, month-over-month but was 8.5% higher year-over-year. The consumption in February of 12,191 tonnes was 2.0% higher than a year earlier. In February, combining bleached or semi-bleached kraft and sulfite softwood pulps, the inventories of 231,084 tonnes decreased by 3,501 tonnes, or 1.5%, from the 234,585 tonnes of January. The February combined consumption of 314,957 tonnes decreased year-over-year by 8,255 tonnes, or 2.6%. In February, combining bleached or semi-bleached kraft and sulfite hardwood pulps, the inventories of 387,285 tonnes decreased by 8,032 tonnes, or 2.0% from the 395,317 tonnes of January. The February combined consumption of 622,260 tonnes increased year-over-year by 20,208 tonnes, or 3.4%. Unbleached sulfite and kraft stocks totaled 9,289 tonnes in February, decreasing 10.5% from the prior month and increasing 13.0% from a year earlier. Consumption was 12,645 tonnes, increasing 17.7% year-over-year.
