European graphic paper shipments in December 2021 totaled 1.930 million tonnes, up 3.2% from the 1.870 million tonnes shipped in December 2020, according to the European Association of Graphic Paper Producers’ (Euro-Graph) statistics. 
 
Three of the six graphic paper grades covered by Euro-Graph registered overall shipment decreased in December 2021 compared to those of December 2020, with coated woodfree, uncoated woodfree and coated mechanical reels registering increases. At the same time, shipments to Europe were down for two of the six grades, with coated mechanical reels, uncoated mechanical (improved & others), coated woodfree and uncoated woodfree registering increases, while exports decreased for all six graphic paper grades.  
 
In December 2021, total graphic paper deliveries to Europe of 1.608 million tonnes were up 6.5% year-over-year, while total European demand increased 5.7% to 1.662 million tonnes. 
 
The deliveries to outside of Europe of 0.322 million tonnes decreased 10.7% in December 2021 over December 2020. 
 
For the twelve months of 2021, overall Euro-Graph deliveries totaled 24.011 million tonnes, up 4.4% from those of January-December 2020. 
 
Year-to-date shipments to Europe of 19.182 million tonnes increased 4.3%, and European demand of 19.767 million tonnes was up 3.1%. Deliveries to outside of Europe increased 4.7%, to 4.829 million tonnes. 
 
In December 2021, uncoated woodfree (UWF) papermakers shipped 0.493 million tonnes, up 10.2% year-over-year. Of this, 0.398 million tonnes were delivered to Europe, up 14.2%, while the 0.094 million tonnes exported decreased 3.8%. European demand of 0.437 million tonnes was up 11.4%. 
 
For year-to-date, UWF shipments reached 6.193 million tonnes, up 10.7% year-over-year. Deliveries to Europe of 5.073 million tonnes increased 10.4%, while those to outside of Europe increased 12.3%, to 1.120 million tonnes. European demand of 5.493 million tonnes was up 6.9%. 
 
Coated woodfree (CWF) shipments in December 2021 totaled 0.340 million tonnes, climbing 11.2% from a year ago. Producers shipped 0.278 million tonnes to Europe, up 14.1%, and 0.062 million tonnes to outside of Europe, decreasing 0.1%. European demand was 0.283 million tonnes, up 13.0%. 
 
Cumulatively in 2021, CWF shipments of 4.159 million tonnes increased 11.7%, including 3.245 million tonnes shipped to Europe, up 9.0%, and 0.914 million tonnes exported, increasing 22.5%. European demand of 3.304 million tonnes was up 8.0%. 
 
Newsprint shipments in December 2021 of 0.409 million tonnes decreased 5.5% year-over-year, including 0.325 million tonnes shipped domestically, down 4.6%, and 0.083 million tonnes exported, decreasing 8.6%. European demand of 0.336 million tonnes was down 5.3%. 
 
Year-to-date, newsprint shipments totaled 4.962 million tonnes, off 3.4% from January-December 2020, including 3.691 million tonnes shipped to Europe, falling 2.2%, and 1.271 million tonnes shipped to outside of Europe, down 6.8%. European demand was 3.798 million tonnes, declining 3.5%. 
 
Coated mechanical reels producers delivered 0.327 million tonnes in December 2021, up 9.7% year-over-year. This included 0.276 million tonnes shipped to Europe, increasing 19.2%, and 0.051 million tonnes exported, down 23.5%. 
 
Over the twelve months of 2021, shipments of coated mechanical reels totaled 4.041 million tonnes, climbing 3.0%. There were 3.152 million tonnes delivered to Europe, up 2.9%, and the 0.889 million tonnes exported increasing by 3.4%. 
 
SC-magazine deliveries in December 2021 totaled 0.216 million tonnes, down 6.9% from a year ago. This included 0.197 million tonnes shipped to Europe, decreasing 6.9%, and 0.019 million tonnes shipped to outside of Europe, down 7.0%. 
 
Year-to-date 2021, SC-magazine shipments totaled 2.684 million tonnes, down 0.7% from the year-ago period. There were 2.368 million tonnes delivered domestically, decreasing 1.7%, while the 0.316 million tonnes exported increased 7.1%. 
 
December 2021 shipments of uncoated mechanical papers (improved and others) of 0.145 million tonnes decreased 6.2% from those of December 2020. Producers delivered 0.132 million tonnes to Europe, up 0.3%, while deliveries to outside of Europe of 0.013 million tonnes fell 43.1%. 
 
January-December deliveries of uncoated mechanical papers (improved and others) totaled 1.973 million tonnes, up 2.5% year-over-year. Producers shipped 1.653 million tonnes to Europe, increasing 5.1%, and 0.319 million tonnes to outside of Europe, falling 9.3%.
