  • Objective to improve efficiency, runability and paper quality with cutting-edge machine technologies and concepts from Voith
  • Voith to supply new BlueLine OCC stock preparation line and perform extensive rebuild measures on existing paper machine

JOHANNESBURG/HEIDENHEIM. Enstra Paper, member of the Corruseal Group and one of the largest producers of recycled containerboard grades in South Africa, has engaged Voith to rebuild its PM 6 for packaging paper in Springs, close to Johannesburg, in South Africa. Voith will supply a new BlueLine OCC stock preparation line to improve efficiency, runability and paper quality. The leading full-line supplier will also undertake substantial rebuild measures on the existing paper machine that was converted from newsprint to packaging papers in 2015.

Cutting-edge machine technology and concepts will lead to capacity increases for Enstra Paper. The start-up of the new facility is scheduled for early 2025.

Thanks to the new BlueLine OCC stock preparation line, Enstra Paper will significantly improve the quality and efficiency of its recycled paper treatment. The company is setting standards for resource-conserving, energy-efficient and robust recycled paper processing with improved fiber yield thanks to the ultra-modern technological solutions from Voith’s proven BlueLine family. Components will include the IntensaPulper, IntensaMaXX for pulper cleaning, IntensaScreenDrum for reject washing, InduraPro and InduraClean cleaners, and other products for screening and fractionation.

The existing PM 6 will be fitted with cutting-edge technologies to enable much more efficient and sustainable paper production. To optimize sheet formation, the forming section will be equipped with a DuoFormer D and Voith’s proven DuoShake DG shaking unit. In the press section, a compact DuoCentri NipcoFlex shoe press will ensure optimal dewatering with reduced specific energy and production costs. The successful implementation of the project will deliver excellent results with regards to Corruseal Group's sustainability goals which are significant reductions in electricity, boiler fuel and freshwater consumption.

At Enstra Paper, further modifications in the dryer section will ultimately lead to improved runability and energy efficiency as well as better paper quality. These upgrades will include a new coating for the drying cylinders, the effective dryer fabric cleaning system CleanLine Extract 4D, a non-contact web drying system downstream of the starch applicator and Voith’s solutions for web stabilization, ropeless tail threading and ModulePro moisturizer for optimum CD moisture profiles.

With over 60 hectares of manufacturing space, Enstra Paper is not only in a favorable strategic location in South Africa close to the largest recovered paper supply but is also situated in the biggest market for recycled paper. Enstra Paper is fully integrated with one of the largest converters of paper into corrugated boxes with a national footprint. These factors make Enstra a leading producer of recycled paper grades in the country. With three exceptionally efficient paper mills on site, Enstra is ideally positioned to serve the growing consumer market.
