BUCKS, England , July 10, 2006 (press release) – BM TRADA Certification Ltd has certified its first client in North America, Meridian Forest Products, Inc, part of UCM Timber plc.

Based in Beaverton, Oregon, Meridian sources Western red cedar, clear Douglas fir and hemlock, Southern yellow pine and East Coast hardwoods from producers in the US and British Columbia, against customer specifications in Europe, predominantly the UK.

Environmental Coordinator, Jennifer Lovejoy acknowledged that while there is currently minimal demand for FSC-certified products in North America, Meridian recognised the need for FSC certification to develop and open up markets in Europe. 'The 2012 Olympics is a major market driver for our UK customers and we want to meet that demand.'

The FSC achievement has come as an early 10th birthday present for Meridian, which was established in 1996. The company intends to grow its exports of FSC-certified lumber from around 10% of current volume to 40 –50%.
