April 11, 2014 (press release) – ELSCAN dualView – the non plus ultra in print image monitoring

As part of an "asset deal", Erhardt+Leimer acquired the Theta Print product segment from Theta System Elektronik GmbH in March. This new acquisition included the high-end video system ELSCAN dualView, which is now available for purchase from Erhardt+Leimer. The company has also enhanced its color, color density and register measurement and closed-loop control expertise.

Erhardt+Leimer print inspection solutions are an accepted standard across the world. With their NYSCAN 100% inspection system and their ELSCAN OMS4 video system, the inspection specialists at Erhard+Leimer were already well positioned on the market – and have now crowned their portfolio in this segment: With ELSCAN dualView, Erhardt+Leimer now provides a print image monitoring system par excellence, which has a proven reputation earned over several years of successful operation.

Top image quality
With web speeds of up to 1300 m/min, the image representation of the two 5 megapixel cameras integrated into the camera unit is unsurpassed in both color reproduction and contrast. ELSCAN dualView catches your eye because the images taken by the wide angle lens have virtually no distortion. The fall-off of light towards the edges is compensated perfectly.
ELSCAN dualView also has a comparatively wide field of view: Erhardt+Leimer provides the two versions "Standard" (140 mm x 117 mm) and "Large" (230 mm x 192 mm). To fulfil the special requirements in packaging printing, the company is also planning a system with two 12 megapixel cameras and a 460 x 345 mm field of view. As with the other versions, the mounting dimensions are very compact.

LED replaces xenon flash plus special flashes for a variety of applications
ELSCAN dualView uses an LED flash which has several significant benefits compared to a conventional xenon flash: the LEDs last for the entire camera lifetime, while xenon flashes may need to be replaced after some years, depending on the intensity of use. The LED flash is operated with a non-hazardous low voltage of under 48 V – xenon lamps require high voltages. Furthermore, the LED flash supports variable adjustment of the flash time, thereby achieving a high definition camera image even at very high web speeds. The color reproduction quality is much higher with LED flashes.

E+L provides highly specialized solutions for the packaging and security printing segments, even by integrating additional flashes into the ELSCAN dualView camera housing: a UV flash facilitates recognition of otherwise invisible security elements and a varnish flash for inspecting printed varnishes and embossing.

Simultaneous presentation of overview and detail
As standard, ELSCAN dualView supports the use of two adjacent monitors. This gives the operator both a wide repeat excerpt and a detail of the printed image at the same time. The inspection specialists at Erhardt+Leimer remain true to their principles: just as in the ELSCAN OMS4, the camera housing integrates both a wide angle and a zoom lens camera. The ELSCAN dualView camera unit is also maintenance-free: the fixed focus lens contains no movable parts.

Just like its "little brother" ELSCAN OMS4, ELSCAN dualView also provides an overview of the repeat for quick navigation with a user-friendly and intuitive mouse operation. Touch screen operation is also available as an option.

Getting started with spectral inline color measurement
With the takeover of Theta Print, Erhardt+Leimer has not only acquired a technically outstanding video system but have also set the points for entry into the market segment "spectral inline color measurement". According to Dirk Schröder, sales division manager for Paper and Foil at Erhardt+Leimer, the company is continuing to develop its "globally outstanding position in the print inspection segment". With 15 subsidiaries on four continents and over 1500 highly skilled staff, the family-run company is optimally equipped to meet the requirements of the global market.
