Zimbabwe has earned about US$620M from sale of tobacco during 2013-2014 marketing season that ends on June 27, industry board says; 194 million kilograms sold this season, compared to 166 million last season

, June 18, 2014 () – Zimbabwe has earned about US$620 million from the sale of tobacco during the 2013/14 marketing season which is due to close on June 27, the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board announced Wednesday.TIMB statistics showed that a total of 194 million kilogrammes of the golden leaf valued at more than US$619 million had been sold on Zimbabwe's three auction floors since the marketing season opened in February.

This was a vast improvement over the 166 million kg sold in the 2012/13 marketing season.

The board announced that the marketing season would close early this year due to early deliveries of flue-cured tobacco to the auction floors.

Indications are that the tobacco sales would the breach the 200 million kg mark by the time the season closes next week.
