Pioneer Hi Bred International issued US patent for 'maize inbred PH1M3S'

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia , April 1, 2014 () – United States Patent no. 8,686,254, issued on April 1, was assigned to Pioneer Hi Bred International Inc (Johnston, Iowa).

"Maize inbred PH1M3S" was invented by Timothy James Masek (Seward, Neb.) and Thomas Charles Barker (Drury, Mo.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A novel maize variety designated PH1M3S and seed, plants and plant parts thereof. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprise crossing maize variety PH1M3S with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into PH1M3S through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. Hybrid maize seed, plant or plant part produced by crossing the variety PH1M3S or a locus conversion of PH1M3S with another maize variety."

The patent was filed on Feb. 21, 2012, under Application No. 13/400,633.
