Value of Latvian exports of sawn timber grows 7.3% year-over-year in January to €36.55M, accounting for 21.8% of total value of forest industry exports of €143.76M; round timber exports climb 13.8% to €17.426M

March 28, 2014 (Polish Press Agency) – Exports of timber and timber products reached 143.761 million euros in January this year, growing 13 percent from the same month in 2013 and accounting for 85.8 percent of total Latvian exports of forestry products in (87.1 pct in Jan 2013).

Timber exports in January 2014 included sawn timber exported in the amount of 36.552 million euros, up 7.3 percent from January 2013, and accounting for 21.8 percent of total forestry industry exports in the said period. Firewood exports dropped 21.4 percent to 21.247 million euros and amounted to 12.7 percent of total Latvian forestry industry exports. Round timber exports increased 13.8 percent to 17.426 million euros, accounting for 10.4 percent of total forestry exports in January this year.

Exports of paper, cardboard and their products rose 33.2 percent to 10.136 million euros in January 2014, making up 6.1 percent of total exports (5.2 pct in Jan 2013).

Latvia also exported 10.451 million euros worth of wooden furniture in January 2014 at a 20.9 percent rise year-on-year, accounting for 6.2 percent of total forestry industry exports in January this year (5.9 pct in Jan 2013).

In January 2014, Latvia supplied its forestry products mainly to Sweden (12.3 pct), the UK (11.6 pct) and Germany (11.4 pct). As compared to January 2013, forestry industry exports to Sweden grew 10.1 percent to 20.549 million euros, exports to the UK were up 6.7 percent to 19.495 million euros, and exports to Germany increased 11.9 percent to 19.032 million euros.

In January 2013, Latvia exported 145.926 million euros worth of forestry industry products.
