LONDON , March 28, 2014 (Business Monitor International) – News: Vijay Sardana, co-chairman of India's agribusiness committee PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has asked the state governments to stop levying multiple taxes on packaged food products. According to Sardana, these taxes are leading to health and food safety issues and preventing investments in the infrastructure sector of India. Sardana claimed that the levying of different layers of hygiene tax ranging between 10% and more than 25% is discouraging entrepreneurs by disconnecting them from the consumers in the value chain of the industry.
