The Forestry Corporation has confirmed jobs will be cut as part of a restructuring of one its major divisions. The Corporation said it is not yet clear how many jobs will be lost, or where they will come from, as the Native Hardwood Forests Division is restructured. Staff were informed of the planned changes last week.
General Manager of Hardwood Forests, Dean Anderson, said a decision will we made in the next few months about the exact shape of the restructure. "We're looking to have one production unit for the North Coast, one for the South Coast, and one for out west," he said.
"What we've done is put this proposal to all our staff, we went around and talked to everyone, and the outcome of that is yes, there is likely to be less jobs." Mr Anderson said the job cuts in regional offices are needed to ensure the organisation can live within its means.
