Printing Franchise's Success Accelerates as Entrepreneurs Flock to Neighborhood Business Center
Printing and marketing services franchise PostNet opened three times as many stores in 2013 as it did in 2012. The brand's growth comes as PostNet's core customers -- the entrepreneurs who power small to medium-sized businesses -- are starting new businesses at a faster pace.
PostNet helps those businesses grow by providing professional marketing materials, direct mail services, websites and email marketing -- and by helping business owners, managers and sales professionals prepare presentations, meet deadlines and win more customers.
"We have a huge range of clients: restaurants, small home-based businesses, physicians offices," says Sharon Foster, who owns a PostNet in Charleston, S.C., with her husband R.C. The Fosters will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their PostNet Center in January.
The business is about more than printing, she says. It's about finding solutions for her customers' marketing challenges so they can thrive -- such as designing a logo and brand identity for a promising startup.
"When I drive down the street and see a sign that we designed and produced as a marquee, and then I see that marquee around town as our customers expand, it's exciting to know we played a part in making that business successful," Foster says.
PostNet currently has more than 300 locations in the U.S., and CEO Steve Greenbaum plans to open 200 more. The demand for business services is expected to grow. By 2020, more than 40% of the United States' workforce will be made up of freelancers, contingency workers and the self-employed, according to a study by Intuit. With more professionals selling their skills on a project-by-project basis, the hardest part of the job often won't be completing tasks -- it will be landing work in the first place.
PostNet has devoted itself for 20 years to helping entrepreneurs build successful businesses. It's a commitment that permeates the organization, which was founded and is still led by Greenbaum and President and COO Brian Spindel. PostNet has consistently won awards for franchisee satisfaction from Franchise Business Review and has been rated a Top 500 franchise by Entrepreneur magazine for 20 consecutive years.
