December 26, 2013 () – The government will spend up to 90 billion baht to pay farmers in the rice support scheme on 15 January 2014. The sources of money include rice proceeds from the Ministry of Commerce and government budgets.

Deputy Minister of Finance Thanusak Lek-uthai on Wednesday confirmed the government had money to pay the farmers. He said the Cabinet had already approved budget of 500 billion baht for rice from the growing season which would end this 31 December.

The payments on 15 January would be given to the farmers who had not yet been paid after joining the rice support program for the 2013/2014 crop year, the deputy minister said.
