CHIPBOARD manufacturer Egger has branched out with a new business that will offer management services to forest and woodland owners across Northern England and Scotland.
Simon Hart has been appointed as business development and compliance manager for Egger Forest Management, following a decision by the company to expand its forestry services in the UK and complement the harvesting activity it already carries out. With more than 25 years' experience in the forest investment sector, Hart joined Egger after nearly 30 years with UPM Tilhill Forestry.
The new team includes Prudhoe-based Dave Robson who joined Egger with almost 10 years experience in forestry and will be responsible for North East England and South East Scotland. Egger Forest Management plans to use the latest technologies to offer a full range of cost-efficient management services.
Laminate and wood panel manufacturer Egger UK currently utilises 1.1 million tonnes of wood per annum at its two board manufacturing plants at Hexham in Northumberland and Barony in Ayrshire.
As well as being Northumberland's largest manufacturing employer, its forestry company is the largest customer for Kielder Forest's commercial timber operations and has a long-term contract to harvest timber on behalf of the Forestry Commissionat Kidland Forest in the Cheviot Hills.
