– Hawkins Wright Ltd. has announced that its Shanghai Symposium 2014 will be held March 27, during China Pulp Week, at the Le Royal Méridien Shanghai Hotel.
The keynote speaker will be Guo Yong Xin of the China Paper Industry Chamber of Commerce.
The program will feature CEOs from North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.
Among the speakers will be Yoshiharu Shimoda of Marubeni Corp., Hernán Rodríguez Wilson of Empresas CMPC, Jimmy Lee of Mercer International Inc., Sunil Sood of APRIL Fine Paper Trading, and Tom Wright of Hawkins Wright.
Hawkins Wright notes on its website that for more than 15 years, it has been engaged in market research and consultancy services “specifically focused on the fast developing but often opaque Chinese pulp and paper sector.”
Shanghai is the chosen location for the symposium because nearly half of market pulp shipped to China is imported to Shanghai and surrounding ports, Hawkins Wright said on its website. It said more than 90% of Chinese customers are located within a one-and-one-half hour flight or a few hours overland travel from Shanghai, and also that Shanghai is the starting point of the Yangtze River, a major waterway.
“With the fast economic development of central and western China, we expect more pulp volume will be transported to inland China via the Yangtze River,” Hawkins Wright said on its website. “Furthermore, the majority of foreign and multi-national pulp and paper companies have their China operations headquarters in Shanghai.”
China Pulp Week will also include the 9th China Pulp & Recycled Fiber Conference on March 25, which is being organized by Asia Forest Industry Consulting Co. and Canadian market pulp industry consultant Brian McClay. The event will be held at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel City Centre.
