Monsanto issued US patent for 'temporal seed promoters for expressing genes in plants'

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia , November 13, 2013 (U.S. Fed News) – United States Patent no. 8,581,044, issued on Nov. 12, was assigned to Monsanto Technology LLC (St. Louis).

"Temporal seed promoters for expressing genes in plants" was invented by Qi Wang (St. Louis), Lisa M. Weaver (O'Fallon, Mo.), Tim N. Oulmassov (Chesterfield, Mo.), Jeffrey Ahrens (Manchester, Mo.), Patrice Dubois (Richmond Heights, Mo.) and Jeffery Q. Shen (Henderson, Nev.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention relates to the field of plant genetic engineering. More specifically, the present invention relates to seed specific gene expression during a defined period of embryogenesis. The present invention provides promoters capable of transcribing heterologous nucleic acid sequences in seeds, and methods of modifying, producing, and using the same."

The patent was filed on April 4, 2012, under Application No. 13/439,732.
