Magazine Media Factbook finds 7,390 consumer print magazines in 2012, most in 10 years, 64 million digital magazine editions delivered: MPA

NEW YORK , October 11, 2013 (press release) – The Association of Magazine Media announced the release of its 2013/2014 Magazine Media Factbook, the definitive source of magazine media research and information for over 20 years. To reflect the digital expansion in the industry, the 2013/2014 edition includes more information related to magazine apps, digital editions, social media and other forms of magazine media. MPA member Brown Printing Company is the sponsor and printer of the 2013/2014 MPA Factbook.

“With 90% of publishers distributing their content on mobile devices, the Factbook now reflects this area of growth, and is a great resource for our members and reinforcement of the vitality of our business,” said MPA’s President and CEO Mary Berner.

There are over 90 pages of magazine media facts included in this year’s edition. Some highlights include:

  • There were 7,390 consumer print magazines in 2012―the most in 10 years.
  • More than 150 print magazines have thrived for more than 50 years compared to only 9 TV programs
  • 64 million digital, magazine editions were delivered in the last year
  • Nearly ¾ have followed a magazine on Twitter and 69% have posted magazine content to Facebook
The Magazine Media Factbook is used by advertisers, agencies, publishers, financial analysts, retailers, members of the press and educators. It is available in a digital edition which offers expanded features including: easy keyword search; TOC hotlinks; opportunity to print individual pages, the entire document, and single or spread page viewing; links to MPA's social media study, PIB membership details, and other areas of interest to members; and relevant video from MPA, members and partners.
