TOKYO , June 24, 2013 () – Kao Corp. said Monday it will build a new plant for sanitary products within its complex in Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture, to meet increasing demand for baby diapers at home and abroad.

Kao will invest about 5 billion yen in the construction of new plant buildings and facilities, while planning to start the construction in September and begin the operations in spring next year.

The new plant will be Kao's third production base for sanitary products in Japan, in addition to the two plants in Tochigi and Ehime prefectures.

Kao said the new plant will also play a role in beefing up the supply base for global markets including Russia as well as for the Japanese market.

Overseas, Kao has begun operations at its plant in Hefei, eastern China, and it is constructing a second plant in Indonesia with production facilities for sanitary products.
