LOS ANGELES , June 14, 2013 () – The American Medical Association's House of Delegates has scheduled a debate for this weekend on whether to support sales and advertising bans of energy and stimulant drinks to people under age 18 pending more scientific study about their health risks, Forbes reported June 14.

One of the items that will be discussed at the debate will be a resolution from the New York State Medical Society that cites an increase in emergency room visits that physicians said was “linked to the consumption of ‘stimulant’ drinks.”

Though the House of Delegates has no legal authority over the sale of energy drinks, it is considered a powerful lobby and holds influence in terms of medical policy and health regulations.
