LOS ANGELES , May 23, 2013 () – European output of OSB, particleboard and MDF/HDF declined 5% between 2011 and 2012 to 43.1 million m³, according to preliminary figures released by the European Panel Federation (EPF).

The federation's production figures, which cover all member countries except Turkey and Russia, showed a 5% year-over-year drop in particleboard production to 28.5 million m³, German industry news service Euwid reported on May 23.

Since 2007, when output was 37.8million m³, European particleboard production has fallen by around 10 million m³ or one third. Of the particleboard produced in 2012, around 66% was used in furniture production, 23% in construction applications and 11% in other areas.

OSB production dropped 2.3% to 3.6 million m³ and MDF/HDF production was down 6% to 11 million m³ last year, following slight volume increases in 2010 and 2011.
