March 27, 2013 () – City officials of Palo Alto, CA, USA are proposing to expand the plastic bag ban, saying that they still see too many bags ending in local waterways. An ordinance in 2008 prohibited single-use plastic bags at grocery store checkout lanes. City officials are now proposing to expand the ban in 2013 to include retailers, restaurants, delis, food trucks and others. The $0.10 charge for paper bags would be raised to $0.25 one year after the ban becomes effective, being 1 Jul 2013 for retailers and 1 Nov 2013 for restaurants.
