LOS ANGELES , January 10, 2013 () – Iran’s
government
has
announced
plans
to
increase
the
country’s
meat
production
capacity and aims to reach self sufficiency in all types of meat production by 2016, Global Meat News reported Jan. 9.

According to the plans, the government is aiming to increase Iran's volume of meat production by approximately 200,000 tonnes over the next few years. Iran produced 970,000 tonnes of meat in 2012, which equaled about 90% of the nation's total demand.

The government plans to allocate 900 billion rials (US$735 million) to increase production capacity.
