According to report by China Paper Association, Jan-Sept. 2012, China imported 12.281 million mts of various kinds of market pulp, up 16.41% year on year. Monthly import volume was 1.3646 million mts on average, jumping 192,400 mts from same period 2011. Average import price of pulp was US$ 677/tone, dipping US$ 169/tonne. 63,600 mts of pulp were exported, dipping 23.3% year on year.
Breaking down to specific grade of market pulp for import, Jan-Sept. 2012, 4.9506 million mts of bleached sulfite softwood pulp were imported, jumping 644800 mts from last year. Average import price was US$ 667/tone, sliding US$ 194/tone. 4.3362 million mts of bleached hardwood pulp were imported, increasing 699,700 mts from last year. Average import price was US$ 703/tone, dipping US$ 121/tone. 507,300 mts of undercooked sulfite pulp were imported, up 188,700 mts from last year. Average import price was US$ 562/tone, dipping US$ 113/tone. 1.0787 million mts of chemical mechanical pulp were imported, up 37,200 mts from last year. Average import price was US$ 542/tonne, flat from last year.
From production of pulp, paper & paperboard, import/export of pulp, paper & paperboard in first 9 months and recent market trend of market pulp, experts expected some 16.5 million mts of market pulp were imported in 2012, up 14% year on year. Around 85,000 mts of market pulp were exported, dipping 14% year on year.
